You may have seen celebs wearing white watches all over Hollywood. A new celebrity watch trend is the G-Shock watch in bright Gcolors. Celebrities like Kanye West, Pharell and Justin Bieber all wear the Casio G-Shock watches. G-Shock watches are known for being durable, rugged watches and are a great way to add a splash of color to your wardrobe. These Casio G-Shock watches come in a variety colors and can be coordinated to match whatever your style.
The best part about these watches is that they are AFFORDABLE. For around $100 you can grab one of these watches and add some classic style and a well-made watch. Casio has been known for years to create good, quality watches that will last you a life-time.
Athletes, movie stars and musicians all love wearing jewelry but we all know the most important piece of jewelry is the wrist watch. When your favorite celebrity wants to check on the time, they might go the blinged out route or go with something more understated and subtle. The wrist watch is really a powerful piece of jewelry.
For male celebs, a classy watch is a piece of jewelry that can used to pull a look together and can really be a show piece. Actors like Jamie Foxx and Brad Pitt can be seen wearing time pieces from Casio and Tag Heuer. Powerful people like the governor of California, Arnold Schwarzeneggar and the former president of the United States George W. Bush always know what time it is with their masculine time-pieces.
Female celebs go with pieces like bracelets, rings, necklaces and earrings to make a statement on the Red Carpet and forgo the watch. But celebs like Angelina Jolie and Paris Hilton can be seen out and about in luxurious watches that are dripping in diamonds. Hilton prefers the large, square faces and Jolie goes for the smaller, round faces.
Adding a watch can really pull a look together. A watch is a piece of jewelry that not only looks good but also serves a functional purpose.
Trying to find a watch with understated style can be a difficult task. Not every occasion is appropriate for flashy jewlery. Watch maker, Bulova, gives you a great watch that can be worn for any occasion be it casual or formal. The Bulova watches come in a sterling silver case with a sophisticated face.
If you are looking for a watch that is casual with a touch of elegance, Bulova is a watch maker that will give you a quality timepiece without being gaudy. Below are three watches that I consider to be classic styles with modern updates.
Kobe Bryant is known on the basketball court as the “Black Mamba” and now you can purchase a watch with his name sake. The Black Mamba is made by the luxury watch brand, Nubeo and Kobe Bryant was very involved in the sleek design. The New Nubeo watch is made of black titanium, ceramic, black sapphires, and sapphire crystals. The cost is $250,000, basketball not included.
With the serious business of horology, its nice to kick back and have some fun at times. That’s where watch company O.D.M. comes in; O.D.M. designer Michael Young is dedicated to making colorful watches that follow a few simple rules: they’re original, dynamic and minimalistic (O.D.M.).
One of my favorites of this very fun and hip brand is the Reverse Analog. The watch comes in several colors (red, white, black, and green) and as you can see, the watch’s hands are reversed and on the outside the face rather than in the middle. Plus, when the watch is tapped on at the top, the outer ring with the hands lights up.
The digital version of the watch employs the same idea. The normal pushers on the outside of the watch are reversed and are featured in the middle while the time is displayed on the outside. It too lights up. For a cool $120 from Watchismo, neither watch is a bad deal with their high style and eye-catching colors.
Even though these watches are very fun and fabulous, they are a bit unconventional. This Casio watch, which normally retails for around $80, is just as edgy, colorful and fabulous as the O.D.M. watches, for a good amount less – especially at Opus Watch where we found it for only $40.
Hublot is celebrating a busy yet very illustrious start to 2010. Back in March during BaselWorld, Hublot sold 14,000 watches- about 70 percent of what they produced during 2009. In a matter of five days. It was, as imaginable, a record breaking and happy week for Hublot. Also in March, Hublot became the Official WatchMaker for Formula 1 with the Chinese Grand Prix fast approaching.
Following all the commotion in March, Hublot then signed what they have deemed “the most important contract in their history” on April 15. Hublot is now the Official Watch for FIFA™ and the Official TimeKeeper for the next two FIFA™ World Cups, the upcoming one in South Africa in June and the 2014 FIFA™ World Cup in Brazil.
And now just recently, Hublot unveiled the Shanghai F1™ King Power watch to celebrate their new partnership with Formula 1™.
The F1™ King Power features a 48mm-diameter satin-finished Zirconium case and a special Zirconium, ceramic bezel resembling the brake assembly found in a Formula One car. The dial is multi-layered and treated in black nickel with black SuperLuminova with micro-blasted and rhodium plated hands.
The pushers on the watch are designed to emulate the various buttons on the modern day Formula One steering wheel. The dual-layer rubber strap is very unique, it consists of one layer of super-comfortable rubber on the inside and a layer of Nomex™ on the outside – the material used in the racing uniforms of Formula One drivers. The watch clearly mirrors the sport in look, precision and performance.
In line with today being Earth Day, we decided to share Citizen’s Eco Drive and their new upcoming editions.
Citizen Eco-Drive LOOP
The Eco-Drive watches are exclusive to Citizen and are light powered (not solar, light) meaning these watches can use any source of light – natural or artificial- to power its batteries. A single minute of light exposure will run the watch for an entire day and once the batter is fully charged, Eco-Drive watches can run for months- some models, even years, before they run out of energy. Its the ultimate green technology for watches.
As it is, 2010 is Citizen’s 80th year as a watch manufacturer and in celebration, they unveiled two exquisite concept Eco-Drive watches at BaselWorld: the Eco-Drive LOOP and the Eco-Drive EYES.
The Eco-Drive Loop features a circle (or loop) of diamonds under a brilliant glass-lined face with a floating, arched second hand. The watch’s design is meant to emulate the circular energy found in nature with its clarity and airy feel.
Citizen Eco-Drive EYES
The Eco-Drive EYES creates a shadowed effect on its pristine white dial with the raised index and floating ring which gives the watch additional depth and texture. The watch has a perfect balance of shadow and light to give it an active and clean design.
A quartz movement, the Bulova Precisionist is a slight deviation from our normal mechanical timepieces. However, what the Precisionist may lack by being battery powered it makes up for in innovation. Unveiled at BaselWorld this year, it is the most precise timepiece ever made. Your typical quartz watch is accurate to plus or minus 15 seconds a month, the Precisionist movement is accurate to plus or minus 10 seconds a year.
By adding a third prong to the typically two-pronged quartz crystal, Bulova created a torsional resonator. The result: a watch with eight times the vibration frequency of traditional quartz watches.
The Precisionist movement will be available in the Fall with a suggested retail range from $299 to just under $1,000.
Along with working on the Precisionist, Bulova is celebrating Accutron’s 50th anniversary by releasing a limited-edition replica of the original alpha case of the Accutron Spaceview 214. The limited-edition will include a replica of the tuning fork movement and exhibition dial, both in stainless steel.
Each Spaceview model will come in a display case and an official plaque providing its number among the limited edition.
For a current Bulova Accutron, most retail anywhere from $350 to $1,200, we’ve found it for $199 with the original warranty on Opus Watch for only $199.
As TAG Heuer celebrates their 150 year anniversary, they unveiled the revolutionary Pendulum Concept at BaselWorld 2010. This masterpiece is the first mechanical timepiece ever to be made without a hairspring making the Pendulum Concept more insensitive to gravity, ensuring better precision and frequency stability in any position.
With over only five years of research and development, TAG created an “invisible” spring in the shape of four high-performance magnets. The resulting magnetic field generates the linear torque driving the alternative oscillations of the balance wheel.
TAG’s last award-winning concept watch, the Monaco V4, was unveiled in 2004 and ready in 2009 with only 150 pieces available as a limited edition of “Haute Horlogerie.” For the Pendulum Concept, it may take several years for the concept to become a commercial reality.
