Hamtun Nanok
Hamtun Watches has seen success on Kickstarter with the latest being the Kraken H2, which had an amazing run, but this post is about the prior offering, the Nanok.
This is my first Hamtun watch and the general opinion is that I like it and expect to keep it for now. The owner behind the brand is Ross Davis, who is quite active in watch groups on Facebook, is fairly accessible, kind in interactions, and seems like a genuinely nice guy. Thus, I recommend it as a brand worth exploring.

The main reason I backed this watch was because of the obvious feature, the full date at 12. Sure there are other watches out there that have the full day, but it is not all that common. I wanted one in my collection and this was at the right price point. Plus it has a great design.
The details:
- Model: Hamtun Nanok, black dial (white was also an option)
- Diameter: 40mm (about 39.2 on mine)
- Height: 11.2mm height (marketed as 10.6, but I measure it at about 11.2-11.3)
- Lug-to-lug: 46mm
- Weight: ~143g (on bracelet)
- Case: 316L stainless steel
- Movement: Swiss Sellita SW240-1 Automatic
- Lume: Super-LumiNova BGW9
- Accuracy: +-10 seconds/day
- Crystal: Sapphire, Flat
- Water Resistance: 100m/300ft
- Bracelet/Strap: 20mm
- Price: £299 (I backed on Kickstarter at £259, but added on the bracelet and hardening for extra cost of £75 and after currency exchange the cost was about $450 in total I think.)
The review:
Pros:
- Full day with the day/date complication, which is not something you see regularly.
- The size is right in the sweet spot, 40x11mm.
- Very comfortable, hugs the wrist and maintains a slim profile.
- To the eye, everything looks crisp and well done and I am visually satisfied with it, but see macro view note in the cons.
- Both bracelet and strap are comfortable.
- The extra hardening…it will be interesting to see how that does over time.
- I really think the little icons with the info on the caseback is a wonderful little touch.
- Shipped in a leather travel roll, which provides the buy with something much more useful than a bulky box that would likely sit in the basement collecting dust.
- Lume is good! Has an aqua look that leans toward green (though pictures make it look more blue).
Cons:
- Crown can be hard to screw back in after setting. Has a hard time engaging with the threads.
- The bracelet clasp is quite thick and can feel bulky. Good thing it has the hardening coating. BUT, I do like how it looks with the polished sides, brushed center, and logo.
- One scratch/dent on the caseback from the bracelet hitting it during packing or shipping.
- A couple issues at the macro level: scratches on the dial next to the hands at center and the marker at 1, printing is not super crisp, a few specs inside the case, top right corner of day cutout is not quite exact.
The Watch Roll
The campaign was in November 2018 and I took delivery in July 2019. May 2019 was the original target, so it was a little behind the estimate. I like the watch roll as opposed to a box. It is actually useful and of reasonable quality.
The company has been around a bit, particularly on Kickstarter, and Hamtun provides a 2-year warranty.
The Watch
Note the hit on the caseback (above), which probably happened during shipping. Not a huge deal and such is the cost of shipping in a watch roll instead of a box.
The Bracelet and Strap
I have ~7.5in/19cm wrist and had to remove five links, but screw-in-pins made the task easy. As always, just be patient and take your time and use the right size screwdriver to prevent scratches or damage.
Up Close
I really do like the watch and the overall design, but there is room for improvment regarding the finer details. You will see a scratch next to 1, in the center just above the hands, and on the caseback. The black, blue, and white combo really works, but the sharpness of the printing could be improved. The brushing is excellent and the little icons on the back are a nice touch. Here are a slew of pictures that show a little of everything.
On the wrist
Though a little bulky at the clasp, it wears very comfortably and maintains a slim profile.

Final Thought
Again, I like the Hamtun Nanok overall and expect to keep it for now. It is a good watch with room for improvement. Hamtun has seen great success on Kickstarter and it will be interesting to see where the brand goes. I recommend Hamtun as a brand worth exploring.
