I am a watch enthusiast and maker that likes to share my thoughts and projects. As for credentials, I have a doctorate in computing, not horology. Member NAWCC. Watch on YouTube!
Being 2020 (yes I am catching up on posts), this was bound to happen. In my quest for an Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance, I decided to take an intermediate step after settling on the Binger 8606 as a cheap stand-in. Enter the Armin Strom Gravity Water, which shares the same basic case specs and strap, but at a fraction of the price. Trouble is…did it lose some jewels?
The Video
In this update to the Brian & The Grail Series, I talk pre-owned watches, dealing with dealers, the function and importance of jewels, things to watch for when buying pre-owned, and turning misfortune into fortune.
An initial look at the watch, pictures found online, and a conversation with a contact at the manufacturer left me with the impression that two jewels were missing. Turns out the watch just very much needed a full service. I have talked more with Armin Strom and will have more detailed information in a future video on the use of brass chuck instead of jewels in certain locations on the gear train of the AMR13 movement and why.
Final Thought
I really really like the strap and clasp. Looking forward to giving the full tour of that and more, once this amazing slice of horology returns to my wrist.
