Dress Low Cost Reviews Watch Shopping

Gallant Classic Series

02/26/202102/26/2021

A review of the Gallant Classic Series 37239-1. This dress style watch turned out better than expected and stands out in the quartz crowd due to the design and movement. A good low-cost option for someone wanting a ready-to-go watch with the mechanical feels. And hey, “Resistant Water” or “Water Resistant” who cares, don’t get the thing wet.

Timeline:

  • Unboxing: 2:21
  • Specs: 4:18
  • Movement Check: 7:25
  • Wrist Check: 9:48
  • Strap Change: 10:23
  • Pros: 12:54
  • Cons: 17:20
  • Macro View: 20:20
  • Final Thoughts: 23:07

Pros:

  • Dimensions (41.5mm x 10.5mm)
  • Mecha-quartz, should be used more!
  • Subtle domed crystal
  • Looks better than the pictures
  • Overall design, love the reverse panda and hints of red
  • Recessed subdials
  • Cost under $40

Cons:

  • Bracelet, so have another strap ready (although the mesh was better quality than other examples I’ve seen)
  • Plated brass case, a reality at this price point
  • Small date text
  • Mild reflectivity
  • Lume longevity
  • “Resistant Water” though mildly entertaining

Final Thought

I quite like this watch. It has a great and simple look, reverse panda design, and a mecha-quartz movement that sets it apart from the plethora of low-cost watches, for only a fraction more. The maximum number of quartz watches in my collection is six (yes I set limits), and this watch has earned a spot in the box. At some point I will write an article on quartz watches to buy, and this Gallant will be in the mix.

If you are in the market for a low-cost dress style ready-to-go watch with a little extra bang for the buck, give this watch an honest look.
