A review of the Gallant Classic Series 37239-1. This dress style watch turned out better than expected and stands out in the quartz crowd due to the design and movement. A good low-cost option for someone wanting a ready-to-go watch with the mechanical feels. And hey, “Resistant Water” or “Water Resistant” who cares, don’t get the thing wet.
Overall design, love the reverse panda and hints of red
Recessed subdials
Cost under $40
Cons:
Bracelet, so have another strap ready (although the mesh was better quality than other examples I’ve seen)
Plated brass case, a reality at this price point
Small date text
Mild reflectivity
Lume longevity
“Resistant Water” though mildly entertaining
Final Thought
I quite like this watch. It has a great and simple look, reverse panda design, and a mecha-quartz movement that sets it apart from the plethora of low-cost watches, for only a fraction more. The maximum number of quartz watches in my collection is six (yes I set limits), and this watch has earned a spot in the box. At some point I will write an article on quartz watches to buy, and this Gallant will be in the mix.
If you are in the market for a low-cost dress style ready-to-go watch with a little extra bang for the buck, give this watch an honest look.
