Rolex Oyster Perpetual Turquoise 277200

10/27/2021

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual 277200 turquoise, sometimes affectionately called “tiffany blue,” is a stunning watch. In the review video, I discuss ADs, the gray market, pros and cons of the watch, and of course I include plenty of pictures along the way.

Here, you will find some photos and a dab of context. All the finer details are in the review video.

Specs:

  • Reference: 277200
  • Diameter: 31mm
  • Height: 10.65mm
  • Lug Width: 16mm
  • Lug-to-lug: 36.6mm
  • Weight: ~83.32g
  • Case: 904L stainless steel
  • Crowns: Screw-down w/ twinlock
  • Movement: Calibre 2232
  • Accuracy: ±2 sec/day
  • Power Reserve: ~55 hours
  • Crystal: Sapphire
  • Water Resistance: 10atm/100m/330ft
  • Lume: Chromalight
  • Retail Price: $5,200

Pros:

  • Time only
  • Impressive power reserve given the size
  • Great proportions
  • Dial color and reflection!
  • Satin finish on bracelet
  • Works for dress wear and casual wear
  • (Can be your ONE Rolex)
  • Value retention
  • Five year warranty

Cons:

  • Can’t really complain much…
  • 904L does pick up marks easily, but being brushed, it’s easy to refinish.
  • Wait time. It’s not unreasonable, but patience is required.
  • Lume is a little weak on the OP, which is fine for a dress-style watch. It’s not a dive watch after all.
  • Springbar tool needed for micro-adjustment.

Dressed up or dressed down, this watch looks great! Certainly my favorite of the colors offered on the smaller OP line.

The Rolex gray market (secondary market) is crazy right now. The turquoise OP 31mm is selling for 2-3x retail. Some Authorized Dealers (ADs) have shady practices that contribute to price inflation. But really good ADs also exist and they do their best to avoid selling to flippers and care about getting a watch on your wrist.

Expect a wait. Mine was four months, but I’ve waited much longer for watches and other products from Kickstarter. Find a good AD, be authentic, be patient, and DO NOT pay over retail!

Oystersteel, which is 904L, is a little softer than the much more common 316L, so it picks up scuffs more easily, but has excellent corrosion resistance. Marks just show the watch is being worn and loved as intended.

The dial is simple and beautiful. Nothing better than a time only watch. I particularly like the reflective qualities of the lacquer dial and polished markers.

Final Thoughts

The turquoise OP 31mm is a well-proportioned and stunning watch that fits any occasion. I buy watches because I love the mechanical art form, not as a status symbol or for any external reason. I will be doing everything I can to make sure my daughter feels the same when she eventually gets this watch. Until then, well, my better half has it! 🙂

In a follow-up video and post, I will discuss watch combos for couples, with a specific focus on an Oyster Perpetual combo.
