Custom Movement Holders

A service I provide is designing and 3d printing custom movement holders and spacer rings. If you want to fit a particular watch movement to a particular case that I haven’t done before, complete the custom parts form. To look at and inquire about existing holders already created, look at movement and case combos. I work with both mechanical and quartz movements. For general inquires, use my contact form.

Note: New movement/case combos typically book 1-2 months out.

Creating a movement holder is a process that goes something like this…

  • You fill out the Custom Movement Holder/Spacer form.
  • We have a back-and-forth conversation to nail down expectations.
  • You cover half the cost of a sample case and movement that I can use for print testing (unless I already have the parts).
  • I create a CAD design and 3D model, then fine-tune the specs based on test prints.
  • You pay for the number of prints desired. (I typically work with low production numbers between 1-100).
  • I print and verify the movement holders.
  • I ship the parts to you.

Cost (what you pay):

  • Half the cost of case and movement, unless I already have the parts.
  • $100 flat fee for drafting the design, unless I already have the design. If the design is similar to an existing combo then the cost decreases.
  • Print cost, usually in the $6-10 range per print. Design complexity, color, and order count impact overall price.
  • Shipping (typically $12 domestic, $24 international)

If you are only needing a simple spacer ring, then the cost to draft and print is much lower. Typical cost is a $10 drafting fee and $2 per print.

The time it takes for me to create custom movement holders varies based on the complexity of the design and what other projects are underway. An average estimate is less than three months.
